The British Virgin Islands
The British Virgin Islands comprise some sixty emerald green volcanic islands situated between, and accessible by air from, Antigua, St Maarten and Puerto Rico. The administrative Capital, Road Town, is located in the main Island, Tortola, and is the financial and commercial centre. The territory is politically and economically stable with a total population of some 20,000.
The BVI is a British Dependent Territory which is self governing. The currency is the US Dollar and there are no exchange controls. The legal system is based upon English Common Law with a wide range of modern legislation designed to attract and to regulate and protect corporate, banking, trust, mutual fund and insurance operations.
